030 - Italian mirror with grotesque

A gracefully shaped fancy mirror frame presided over by a protruding grotesque face that seems to watch down with attention. The frame is completed with a magnificent ornamentation of leaves.

The frame is formed by four pieces that fit together by means of dovetail joints. The careful computer restoration assures that these joints will fit with extreme accuracy. This type of design permits making a quite big mirror frame with just a scroll saw. The joints are then covered by some ornamental pieces and the grotesque itself. The use of contrasting wood colours, very dark in the rear and clear for the fretworked pieces creates a staring effect in the finished mirror.

The mirror frame is designed to be made with 1/4 inches wood or with 6 mm wood. It can be scaled to use other wood thickness as well. The following table gives the dimensions of the frame depending on the wood thickness you use:

Mirror height Mirror width
1/4 in. wood 27 in. 15.6 in.
6 mm wood 64.9 cm 37.5 cm
